The work
The work I do is relational and pattern-focused. I don't run intake checklists or assign homework between sessions; I pay attention to what happens in the session, the moments when something shifts or goes flat, and the recurring pattern underneath the presenting problem. Most people already know the story of their situation and keep landing in the same place. What's missing is someone watching in real time who can name what's invisible from inside it. More on how I work, and how I work with couples.
Therapy in Porto: a growing international city, a thin English supply
Portugal's public system runs long waits and works in Portuguese. SNS mental health care can take months, much of it is not in English, and couples work sits outside it. Private therapy is more affordable here than in much of Europe, but English-speaking depth therapists are stretched thin by a fast-growing international and remote-working population. Porto has become a magnet for expats and digital nomads drawn by cost and quality of life, and English-language depth therapy is stretched thin. This is private depth work in English, paid directly, outside the SNS.
The Porto patterns
The city draws the internationally mobile. The remote worker or founder who relocated for a lighter, cheaper life and found the isolation heavier than expected. The expat couple renegotiating their life after a big move. The nomad who keeps moving and has never had continuity of care across the moves. The person whose relocation looks like freedom online and feels, some days, like drift. None of it is failure. It is the underside of a mobile life. The work meets it directly, in fluent English, and follows you if you move again.
Why people in Porto work with me
Three reasons. Continuity, first: nomads and movers lose their therapist every time they relocate, and online depth work follows you anywhere with a connection. Fit, second: my whole practice is people living outside their home country, so the texture of a relocation or a nomadic life needs no explaining, and the work is depth-oriented rather than a short course. Privacy, third: I work outside the Portuguese system entirely, with nothing on any local record. I am candid that local private therapy can cost less; what I offer is depth and fluent English, not the lowest price.
Questions people ask from Porto
What people bring to online therapy
The people I work with in English come for a wide range of reasons: anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, anger management, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, loneliness, self-esteem issues, procrastination, sleep problems, attachment patterns, self-sabotage, perfectionism, identity questions, and existential concerns. Online counseling makes this work possible from wherever you are, whether you need an English-speaking therapist, a virtual counselor, or simply someone who can work in your language at a depth that matters.
How it works
Sessions are online via secure video call. I work with individuals and couples (60 minutes). Before your first session, we have a free 15-minute call to see if this feels like the right fit for you.
Selected research on this approach
My work is psychodynamic and depth-oriented. These are some of the studies on the effectiveness of that kind of therapy. They describe research on the method in general, and are not claims about any individual outcome.
