The work
The work I do is relational and focused on pattern. I don't run intake checklists. I don't assign homework. I pay attention to what happens in the session. The moments when something shifts or goes flat. The pattern that keeps showing up underneath the problem. Most people already know their own story. They still keep landing in the same place. What's missing is someone watching in real time, someone who can name what you cannot see from inside it. More on how I work, and how I work with couples.
The arrangement
I am a US-trained psychodynamic therapist working online and privately. I hold no Malaysian registration; Malaysia's Lembaga Kaunselor registers counsellors, and I am not on it, which this page will be honest about below. You pay directly, in any currency. Malaysian evenings land in my early afternoon, so a standing slot is easy to hold. When what you need is psychiatry, medication, or a registered local clinician, I will say so in the first call and point you to the right door.
What people bring to online therapy
The people I work with in English come for a wide range of reasons: anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, anger management, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, loneliness, self-esteem issues, procrastination, sleep problems, attachment patterns, self-sabotage, perfectionism, identity questions, and existential concerns. Online counseling makes this work possible from wherever you are, whether you need an English-speaking therapist, a virtual counselor, or simply someone who can work in your language at a depth that matters.
How it works
Sessions are online via secure video call. I work with individuals and couples (60 minutes). Before your first session, we have a free 15-minute call to see if this feels like the right fit for you.
Why people search for terapi in English
Hundreds of people a month type that exact phrase. It reads like a mistake and it is anything but. It is what a search looks like when a person lives between languages: the sentence starts in Malay and finishes in English, because that is how the inner life actually runs. Malaysia produces this person at scale. Educated in English, working in English, feeling in English, or in a braid of English and Malay that no dropdown menu on a therapy directory has a box for.
The phrase names a precise need. Not therapy translated into English as a courtesy. Therapy that runs in English natively, with someone whose entire practice works that way. That is what this page is.
What the sessions are, literally
The work is open-ended, psychodynamic talk therapy over secure video, and it runs in English. I am American, US-trained, and English is my only working language, which I would rather say plainly than let you discover. What that buys you is a therapist for whom English is not an accommodation but the native instrument of the work.
Code-switching is welcome in the room. If the true word for a feeling is a Malay one, say it, then unpack it with me in English. Nothing important should get lost translating yourself, and for most people who find this page, the language their inner life runs in is English anyway, sometimes with borrowed words where English falls short. Bring the borrowed words.
Who this fits
The people who search this phrase sort into a few recognizable groups. The KL and Penang professional whose working life, reading life, and feeling life all run in English, whatever language the family speaks at dinner. The Malaysian who grew up abroad and came back, fluent in the country and slightly foreign in it at the same time. The mixed couple whose shared language is English, for whom couples work in any other language would mean one partner always working uphill. And the long-term resident who has been in Malaysia for years and wants depth work, not a protocol, in their own language. If you found this page by typing the phrase, you are probably one of these.
The honest alternatives
You have real local options, and some of them may fit you better than I do. Malaysia genuinely licenses counsellors: the Board of Counsellors, the Lembaga Kaunselor, registers them under the Counsellors Act, and Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya have a real clinic ecosystem with sessions typically RM160 to RM450. If your feelings live in Malay, a registered kaunselor working in Malay is the right instrument, and I will say so on our call. My position is different: outside every local system, private, in English only, focused on depth and pattern rather than short protocols. The full map of how therapy works in Malaysia, the rules, the prices, the insurance catch, is on my Malaysia page, and the KL-specific picture is on the Kuala Lumpur page.

Selected research on this approach
My work is psychodynamic and depth-oriented. These are some of the studies on the effectiveness of that kind of therapy. They describe research on the method in general, and are not claims about any individual outcome.
